Sudden onset pain to the scrotum and groin should always be treated as an emergency and prompt assessment by a doctor immediately. This pain may occur with or without any swelling or redness. There are several causes of this sudden or acute pain and the cause is also dependent on the age of the child. One of the most feared conditions is testicular torsion, where a testicle twists and loses its blood supply. It requires emergency care to prevent loss of the testicle permanently (within 6 hours).
Testicular torsion is commonly seen in neonates and adolescents.
If your child has sudden pain or discomfort in their scrotum or groin, contact your doctor right away or take them to emergency rooms as soon as possible for a full assessment.
